Monel 400 Nickel Alloy Bars

Monel 400 is an alloy made from a combination of nickel and copper, and is usually formulated in proportions of approximately 67 percent nickel and 33 percent copper. The primary appeal of nickel alloy 400 is its outstanding alkaline and corrosion resistance properties, making it widely used in the marine and chemical processing industries. Common applications of nickel alloy 400 include marine fixtures and hardware, process piping, shafts and vessels, heat exchangers, water and gas tanks, electrical components, and petroleum production and refining equipment.

Performance of Nickel Alloy 400

Nickel alloy 400 displays the following general performance characteristics:

  • High strength over a broad range of temperatures
  • Outstanding corrosion & alkaline resistance
  • Magnetic capability

Alloy 400's alkaline resistance capabilities make it a good choice for deployment in environments where it is subjected to highly acidic substances, such as salt water, sulfuric acid or hydrofluoric acid. Additional treatments can be applied to give nickel alloy 400 magnetic properties, thus broadening its range of potential uses. It is significantly harder, stronger and more corrosion-resistant than pure nickel, and its default hardness characteristics can be increased by exposing the alloy to cold-working processes.
